Mascoutah was founded by German settlers and kept a compact, well-built centre while newer subdivisions filled in around it, helped along by the airport and the base nearby. The result is genuinely old housing and genuinely new housing within a few blocks of each other.

The older houses get the careful treatment — clips only, warm white, porches and trim traced rather than covered. The newer ones get crisp white with each gable outlined. We walk the property first, because pricing a house you have not seen is how people end up disappointed.
