Christmas Light Installation in Lafayette Square
Mansard roofs, cast-iron galleries and tall narrow fronts facing the oldest park in the city. A neighborhood where light belongs on the details, not the roof.
A neighborhood of facades
Lafayette Square is built around the park, and everything about the houses is aimed at the street. The Second Empire townhomes have mansard roofs with dormers punched through them, tall narrow windows stacked three high, ornamental cornices, and cast-iron fences and galleries that are often the best thing on the property. The lots are narrow, the fronts are flat, and there is almost no eave line in the conventional sense to hang a roofline run from.
That changes the whole design. On a house like this, the light goes on what is already there: the window surrounds, the cornice, the iron, the entry stair and the small trees at the sidewalk. Trying to force a standard roofline package onto a mansard front produces a thin, awkward line at the top of a house and nothing where people actually look.
What the block looks like when it works
Lafayette Square lights up together, and that is part of the appeal — a row of narrow fronts in the same warm white reads as one long, deliberate composition around the park. Where a whole block wants to coordinate, we are happy to quote it together and match temperature and spacing across the properties.
Install runs October into November, the display is maintained all season, and takedown and storage happen in January. Serving Lafayette Square, Soulard and the near south side — free quote from the address.
