Christmas Light Installation in Litchfield, Illinois
An old Route 66 town north on I-55, with a main street that has kept its buildings and its neon.
A main street that survived
Litchfield sits on the old Route 66 alignment north on I-55, and it is one of the towns along that road that held onto its main street — brick storefronts, original signage, the Sky View drive-in still standing at the edge of town. The residential streets behind hold solid older housing on generous lots.
Historic commercial frontage lights beautifully when nothing is fastened into original masonry. Clips fitted to the surface, warm white along the cornice and around the openings, on timers so the street is lit every evening. The houses take the same restraint.
What works here
- Clips only, never a fastener — original fascia, trim and slate stay untouched
- A single warm colour temperature — cool white turns old brick grey
- Porches, columns and bay windows outlined — trace what the builder drew
- Dormers and steep peaks cut on site — no stock length stretched across a gable
- Careful January takedown — removed the same way it went up
Litchfield is the northern end of our Illinois run, grouped with Staunton and Gillespie into set weeks. (636) 244-6125.
