Christmas Light Installation in the Central West End

Portland Place, Westmoreland, Kingsbury — some of the tallest, most ornate residential fronts in Missouri, and none of them are ladder work.

The hardest residential fronts in the city

The private places off Kingshighway and the blocks around Euclid hold turn-of-the-century houses built at a scale nobody repeats: three and four stories of limestone and brick, slate roofs with multiple dormers, stone balustrades, deep cornices and carriage entrances. They are magnificent and they are genuinely demanding to light. Very little of a Central West End front is reachable from a ladder, most of the material you would want to clip to is stone rather than wood or gutter, and the details that make the house worth lighting are exactly the ones that a careless install will damage.

So this is lift work, planned in advance, with attachment chosen before anybody leaves the shop. We do not put a fastener into historic masonry or mortar. Where there is no gutter, no wood trim and no shingle edge to work with, we say so and we design around it rather than improvising with something that leaves a mark in February.

How a Central West End job runs

  • A walk-through first — we look at the front, the roof edges and the entry before quoting anything
  • Lift access planned, including where it can sit on a narrow private street without blocking neighbors
  • No drilling into stone; clips go to gutter, shingle edge or existing wood only
  • Cornice, dormer and entry lit in that order, because that is what reads from the street
  • One warm white, which is the only temperature that flatters aged limestone after dark
On these houses the architecture is already the display. The light is there to find the edges of it, and then stop.

Crews arrive scheduled, work quietly, and leave the property as they found it. Maintenance runs all season, takedown happens in January, and everything is labeled and stored off-site until next year. If you would like us to walk the house before you decide on a look, say so — (636) 244-6125.
