Christmas Light Installation in Highland, Illinois

A Swiss-founded town with a proper square, thirty miles east, that takes its downtown seriously.

A square worth lighting properly

Highland was founded by Swiss settlers and it kept the habits — a genuine town square, brick commercial buildings around it, and residential streets of well-built older housing spreading out from there. The square is the centre of the town’s December in a way that is increasingly rare.

Square-front buildings light beautifully when the work respects them: warm white along the cornice line and around the openings, nothing fastened into original masonry, all of it on timers. The houses off the square take the same restraint — porches and rooflines traced, and left at that.

What works here

  • Clips only, never a fastener — original fascia, trim and slate stay untouched
  • A single warm colour temperature — cool white turns old brick grey
  • Porches, columns and bay windows outlined — trace what the builder drew
  • Dormers and steep peaks cut on site — no stock length stretched across a gable
  • Careful January takedown — removed the same way it went up
One block of the square done properly changes the whole town in December.

Commercial work is scheduled around trading hours and taken down promptly in January. Highland sits on our eastern run with Troy and Trenton.
