Christmas Light Installation in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri
One of the newest towns in St. Charles County, which means big front elevations, tall entries and a lot of roofline to get straight.
A town built almost entirely in one era
Dardenne Prairie sits between O’Fallon, Lake Saint Louis and Cottleville along Route N and Bryan Road, and nearly all of it went up from the 1990s onward. That gives the whole city an unusually consistent housing type: large two-story homes on graded lots, brick or stone across the first floor of the front, a two-story entry, and a roof that steps through several planes on its way to a side-entry or forward garage.
There is a lot of linear feet on a house like that, and most of the visual impact comes from a single decision — whether the line is straight. Everything else is secondary. A wide front elevation with one dipping span or one inconsistent gable step announces itself from the far end of the cul-de-sac.
Filling out a new-build lot
Newer subdivisions come with young landscaping and a lot of open lawn, so a roofline on its own can look stranded. A wrapped tree near the drive, netting across the front beds and a lit garland at the entry give the house something to stand on and make the roofline read as part of a design rather than an outline.
