Christmas Light Installation in Carlinville, Illinois

A town with a genuinely remarkable square

Carlinville is the Macoupin County seat, home to the Million Dollar Courthouse and, a few blocks away, the Standard Addition — the largest collection of Sears mail-order kit houses anywhere in the country. Blackburn College sits on the edge of town. For a place this size, the architecture is remarkable.

Kit houses are consistent by design, which means a consistent standard across a street looks superb and an inconsistent one is glaring. Original wood gets clips and nothing else. Warm white, traced along the roofline and the porch, and left there.

What works here

• Clips only, never a fastener — original fascia, trim and slate stay untouched
• A single warm colour temperature — cool white turns old brick grey
• Porches, columns and bay windows outlined — trace what the builder drew
• Dormers and steep peaks cut on site — no stock length stretched across a gable
• Careful January takedown — removed the same way it went up

Carlinville is the far northern edge of our Illinois map, grouped into set install weeks. Booking in summer means you pick the date.
